I Used To Be Totally Clueless

But Now I Know Exactly What I'm Doing
And Where I'm Going...
And The Best Part Is That YOU CAN TOO!

"Face To Face" Viewpoint

Mode Name:
Dorian
Scale and Chord Degree:
ii or Supertonic

Scale and Chord Nature:
minor
Mood:
Blues Minor

TIP: You may be more comfortable using your second finger instead of your third when playing the fifth and fourth strings at the seventh fret. I personally like using my third. Up higher on the neck, I think you'll agree that the third finger is more comfortable.

Will Landrum and "Living Digits" Review
© Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck Rating - 9.5 / 10

Have you ever heard of the term melodic shredding? I cannot say that I have but I have someone here that does it, and very well. His name is Will Landrum. And let me add that there is much more to his sound than that one frame of reference.

On Living Digits, Landrum shows why he can call himself the Guitar Consultant and back it up. By the way, he offers DVD-ROMs and optional downloads with several types of guitar lessons on his site.

The Living Digits CD is a testimonial for a life long love affair with the six-string and getting the optimal sound and enjoyment from his instrument.

Landrum likes the feel of the moment when he plays, the raw spontaneity of cutting loose on the guitar and letting those creative juices flow.

I could have realized that by listening to the music the first time around but I got it right from the horse’s mouth as they say, via some lengthy e-mail conversations.

I learned quite a bit about this artist, which made my listening experience much more enriching. As I write this tonight, I am listening for the fourth time and loving every minute of it.

Landrum offers eight instrumental rockin’ tracks that reflect life long influences and a straight ahead playing style that does not compromise the strong sense of commitment to his craft nor does it strive for perfection.

I simply cannot pick a favorite on this CD; I loved every track.

As Will takes you on a guided tour of the six-string and all of its sounds and subtleties, each individual composition fully develops and unfolds while you listen. To say this dude rocks is putting it mildly.

When you look at this recording in retrospect, what you get is a solid dose of classic rock, metal, and blues all wrapped into one tight package.

Landrum sites Deep Purple and Ritchie Blackmore as a major influence and you can hear that loud and clear, particularly on the track “Fill In The  ___.

The following track is the closer “Perfection Of The Bride,” it is a beautiful acoustic composition and actually the only non-electric track on the album.

It is something that Blackmore would play with his current band Blackmore’s Night, one of my favorite recording artists.

It seems fitting that the album winds down with a nice acoustic number after he boggles your mind with incredible six-string virtuosity and technical expertise in tracks 1-7.

If you have any doubt whatsoever regarding this man’s validity to offer lessons, listen to this CD, and any doubt that you have will be put to rest after you hear the opening track “Change Your Mind.” Interesting that the title is such, I just realized what a perfect segue that was after writing the sentence!

It only seems appropriate that I end the review that way as Will Landrum has the same style; some of the best things in life are not premeditated, so just hang on, I guarantee one he** of a ride!

I Literally Teach Thousands Of Guitarists...

Because I have so many online students, I know what they need and want to improve their musicianship.

How do I know?

I ask them... I keep in touch with them to find out EXACTLY what they need help with the most when playing rock guitar.

And today, I can help you dramatically increase your rhythm and lead guitar skills.

So come on!... Stick around and take advantage of my knowledge and experience just like the private students I teach in my private studio.

Clear Away Your "Guitar Playing Cobwebs"...

Are You A Frustrated And Miserable Guitarist Like I USED TO BE?

See if you're feeling me on this...

I reached the point where I needed to go further but had NO IDEA how to do it or even what I was looking for!

I knew...
that I had "holes" in my familiarity with the notes on the entire fretboard. I avoided certain areas of the fretboard because I didn't know what to play there.

I knew...
that when I would try to write a song, I was "hunting and pecking" for the parts that sounded good together and never came up with stuff that I thought sounded great.

I would watch...
my favorite players play lead and see finger stretches that I never used... and wondered how they knew that their fingers could or should go there.

I knew...
that I needed to know what chords related to each other as well as what scales related to those chords.

I knew...
that my understanding of music applied to the guitar was incomplete.

That Lack Of Understanding Prevented Me
From Being The Guitarist I Am Today.
I'll Bet It's Holding You Back Too...

So I studied... read books ...wrote things down... drew fretboard diagrams of scale patterns ...drew fretboard diagrams of note sequences... learned what stuff like Mixolydian meant... what a I IV V chord progression was... what diminished was... how chords are musically built... what the difference between major and minor was... etc., and of course, I played my guitar to hear what I was learning!

I studied everything I needed to know so I could:

Play Lead Guitar Over The Entire Fretboard

Compose And Play Better Chord Progressions

Compose And Play World Class Guitar Solos Against Those Chord Progressions

Feel On Top Of The World When I Woke Up Every Morning! (Believe me! You FEEL GREAT every day when you just KNOW your guitar playing SMOKES!)

As a result, I went on to write and record the instrumental guitar music on my CD "Living Digits".

I've also been able to easily apply that knowledge to existing songs enabling me to figure out what key those songs are in and then do my own thing with them like my "Shredded Christmas Card" CD.

Listen to this music I composed on my CD "Living Digits" using the information in "Powerful Modal Theory And Soloing".

I hope you don't think I'm bragging...
You need to realize that if I can do it, you can too!

All that research took the fragmented bits of understanding that I had and "cleared the cobwebs" in my musically messy brain.

It was like looking through a dirty window and then looking though a clean one.

Now I compose my own tunes, and know what musical options I have to complete the composition.

I can figure out the key signature of other people's songs and improvise to "do my own thing" with them.

The only cover tunes I've really ever done are some Christmas classics. Listen to how I "tricked out" "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" using the information in "Powerful Modal Theory And Soloing".
Just click the "play" button.

That's What Exploded MY Guitar Playing Forever... But What About You?

That experience for me was so powerful and enlightening that I *had* to share it with other guitarists...

I took all the information I had previously scoured through and studied, and boiled it down "step by step" into my own personal "formula" that's "straight forward" and easy to understand.

Let's be frank.
I don't know you.

I don't know your current level of guitar knowledge.

I don't know your technique skill level. (or even what techniques you know at all)

But you're obviously here because YOU KNOW YOU NEED HELP and want to be better... A LOT BETTER.

How many of these questions can you truthfully answer NO?

1. I understand musical note relationships within all key signatures APPLIED TO THE FRETBOARD OF MY GUITAR.

2. I know where all the notes are on the entire fretboard that I can use to play lead guitar in any key or mode.

3. I know all my chord options when creating my own songs.

4. I know exactly what lead guitar notes on the entire fretboard I can use to play over those chords.

5. I know how to play those notes as lead guitar licks so they don't sound like scales.

6. I know how to be creative with guitar techniques so I sound original.

7. I know exactly what modes are, and I can explain them to a 10 year old kid.

8. I know how to play lead guitar in all 7 modes of any key.

9. I know how to figure out what mode a song is in. (yes, EVERY song is in some mode)

10. I know how to compose a chord progression in any of the 7 modes... in any key I want.

If you truthfully answered NO to most of these questions, then I can help you more than you could ever imagine!

If you truthfully answered YES to most of these questions,  then no doubt, my credibility just went up in your mind because you know I'm right about the power of this knowledge!
